First of Fall writing classes begin Sept 6, 2016 in Naples

Upcoming writing classes in #Naples run from September 6 through mid-October. If you’re in the area, be sure to sign up soon. Classes for the ACE program (Adult and Community Education) are held at Barron Collier High School. Note that the cost of the class is based on the number of class meetings:

Reading with a Writer’s Eye
Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m. (5 weeks)
September 12, 19, 26, October 10, 17 (no class Oct. 3)
Barron Collier HS ($74)
Learn from published authors as we read and discuss a variety of stories (as well as movies and TV shows) from an author’s perspective. We’ll focus on character and plot development, creating scenes through action and dialogue and how to apply it all to our own writing. Registration Details.


Story Elements: Character, Plot, POVTuesdays, 6-8 p.m. (3 weeks)

Get started on your story with these important elements. Through writing exercises learn to engage readers by crafting 3-dimensional characters then creating an exciting plot with a realistic point-of-view. We’ll share in-class writing to learn from different story options. This short course is perfect for all levels of writers. Registration Details.

Focus on Your Book Project 
Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m. (6 weeks)
September 7, 14, 21, 28, October 5, 19 (no class Oct. 12)

Have you thought of writing a book? Discover the process of drafting both fiction and nonfiction books from planning and layout, chaptering and organizing, to the importance of different writing elements. Students will have time during each session to share excerpts of their works-in-progress for feedback. All writing levels encouraged. Registration Details. 

KidBiz: How to Write for Children and Teens 
Thursdays, 4:30-6:30 p.m. (6 weeks)
September 8, 15, 22, 29, October 6, 13

Do you love sharing information in a fun and engaging way? Learn the ins and outs of the children’s publishing world including how to select characters and topics to engage different age levels and categories, plus tips on story length, language, structure, and plot complexity through in-class writing and critique. Registration details.

Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. (3 weeks) September 27, October 4, 11
Barron Collier HS ($54) 

Focus on specific story elements in this short course perfect for all writing levels. Engage readers using dialogue, action, and setting to establish strong scenes and then deepen the story by considering story theme. We’ll explore options for each writing element and share in-class writing to learn from each other. Registration details.

I’ll be one of the authors at the first FGU Literacy Festival from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. School groups, teachers, and families will join in on activities, author presentations/talks, plus books signings near the campus library.
